Mission
Mission and Goals
The Department's goal and mission is
to provide a clinical/educational environment where
students can obtain theoretical knowledge and
practical experience. The program prepares students
to provide effective diagnostic, rehabilitative, and
assessment services that can improve the quality of
life for those who have communication impairments.
These include difficulties in hearing, speech,
language, voice, and swallowing which can occur in
patients of all ages. The primary goal of the CSL
department’s program is to provide a rich
undergraduate education that prepares students for
graduate study. Through theoretical and clinical
experience, the program attempts to give students an
extensive understanding of the knowledge and skills
necessary to be able to work in different settings.
This experience should teach them to be able to
assess, diagnose, and treat the different types of
communication disorders, including:
- Language delays (receptive & expressive)
- Difficulties in articulation
- Difficulties with the voice
- Nasality
- Stuttering
- Learning difficulties
- Hearing impairment
- Cerebral palsy
- Autism
- Down syndrome
- Cleft palate
- Neurological impairments and degenerative
diseases (aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria,
dementia, multible scelerosis, parkinsonn's)
- Difficulties in swallowing
- Dyslexia
- Laryngectomy patients
